Cobb Harbour

Visitors enjoying a sunny day on The Cobb at Lyme Regis in Dorset, England with scenic ocean views and cliffs in the background.
Cobb Harbour, Lyme Regis, England

As you arrive in Lyme Regis, our first port of call will be Cobb Harbour, famous for its unique curved shape and dramatic setting on the Jurassic Coast. Walk along one of Dorset’s most iconic landmarks, with a rich maritime history and stunning coastal views. You may even recognize Cobb Harbour from Oscar-winning films such as The French Lieutenant’s Woman, starring Meryl Streep. Visit The Lyme Regis Aquarium located on the harbor. This small aquarium lets you hand-feed grey mullet fish, hold crabs, and learn about local marine life.

We can even arrange for you to take a fishing trip or a luxury Jurassic Coast cruise from the harbor to see the cliffs from the sea.

Lyme Regis Museum

The next stop in your private tour is visiting the Lyme Regis Museum, the perfect place to learn about the area’s incredible geology, fossils, and history. It’s a historic location, with the museum built on the site of Mary Anning’s former home, where she made groundbreaking fossil discoveries in the early 19th century. Learn about her famous finds, which helped shape modern paleontology. The museum has an impressive collection of real fossils, including prehistoric marine reptiles, found along the Jurassic Coast. You’ll be able to view these fossils and even learn how to identify fossils on the beach before heading out with your driver guide to do your own fossil hunting.

I highly recommend Private Tours England for your exclusive and memorable trips!

Fossil Hunting at Charmouth Beach

Visitors relaxing on the sandy beach at Jurassic Coast near Charmouth, Dorset with majestic cliffs and calm ocean in the background, a popular British holiday destination
Charmouth Beach, Jurassic Coast, England

Take the short drive to Charmouth Beach, renowned for being one of the best fossil hunting spots on the Jurassic Coast. Visit the Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre for further information on fossils, and using the skills you learn here and from the Lyme Regis museum, you will be ready for a guided fossil walk. Hunt for fossils along the beach that you can take home with you as an exclusive and unique souvenir.

If you would rather not take part in a fossil hunt, it is still a fantastic experience to simply walk along the beach enjoying stunning views of the ancient cliffs and sea.

Golden Cap

Finish the day taking part in one of England’s most spectacular coastal hikes – the Golden Cap Walk. Depending on your level of fitness, your driver guide can determine which walking route is most suitable. Enjoy the best panoramic sea views on the Jurassic Coast and rare wildlife as you encounter a mix of coastal paths, woodlands, rolling fields, and cliffside trails.

As the highest point on the south coast of England (191m/627ft), it provides a fantastic vantage point over Lyme Bay, stretching as far as Portland Bill on a clear day.

Dean connected with all of us. He was funny and very informative about the city. He tried hard to make our experience memorable and personal. We were a multigenerational group and Dean did awesome making it fun. We would all recommend Dean!
